The clamp lever is adjustable for clamping force, however when I have it adjusted for what I feel is a secure clamp, it won't completely release from the rail with just the lever. I have to release the lever AND loosen the screw to get the side clamp to clear the rail. So, it may not fit your needs in a life and death situation. But if you have a minute or two, it will release without needing more than your fingers to loosen the screw after releasing the lever. My results were as mounted on a Colt 6920LE.
